ChatGPT Ads spend, delivery, and performance data flow into SourceMedium alongside your other ad platforms.

What you need

  • Access to the OpenAI Ads Manager ad account you want SourceMedium to read.
  • An Ads API key created from that ad account’s Settings tab.
  • Editor or Admin access to your SourceMedium store.
ChatGPT Ads uses an Ads API key from Ads Manager. This is different from an OpenAI Platform API key used for model/API development.

How to connect

You connect data sources yourself in SourceMedium. Sign in to your SourceMedium account, open your store, then in the Data sources section click Connect data source and choose the platform. You need an Editor or Admin role on the store. If you have view-only access, ask an admin or editor on your team to connect it.Once it is connected, what happens next covers first-sync timing and what each connection status means.
1

Create an Ads API key in Ads Manager

Open OpenAI Ads Manager, select the ad account you want to connect, then go to Settings and create an Ads API key. OpenAI’s Ads API docs state that each key is scoped to one ad account.
2

Start the ChatGPT Ads connection

In SourceMedium, find ChatGPT Ads in the connector picker and click Connect.
3

Paste the Ads API key

Paste the Ads API key from Ads Manager. SourceMedium checks the key with OpenAI before saving it, so an invalid key is caught right away.
4

Confirm the connection

After a valid key is saved, open the connection details to follow its current status as data arrives. See Connection statuses for the exact meaning and next action for each label.
SourceMedium only ever reads from your connected platforms. It does not create, change, or delete anything, so create the key with read-only access wherever the platform offers it. Treat it like a password: keep it confidential and avoid sharing it over email or in spreadsheets. If the credential is rotated or revoked, follow this guide’s connection method to update SourceMedium.

Multiple ad accounts

An Ads API key is scoped to one OpenAI ad account. If you need to connect more than one ChatGPT Ads ad account to the same SourceMedium store, contact your SourceMedium team before connecting so we can confirm the account setup path.

Conversion events

This guide covers the reporting connector. OpenAI’s Conversions API uses a separate Pixel ID and Conversions API key from Ads Manager. Those credentials are not required for the standard ChatGPT Ads reporting connection.

What data syncs

  • Ad account
  • Campaigns, ad groups, and ads
  • Daily campaign insights (spend, delivery, and performance)
ChatGPT Ads is incremental. Historical backfill is not available on this connector.
